NDC vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has condemned the reported killing of social media political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu in Kano State and called for an immediate investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
Kwankwaso said he was deeply disturbed by the reported killing of Dan Shagamu, whose body was allegedly found at his residence in Kano.
He described the incident as a horrific attack and urged the Kano State Government to immediately constitute an investigative panel to thoroughly probe the circumstances surrounding the commentator’s death.
“I am deeply disturbed by the killing of the renowned social media political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, whose body was found today in a pool of his blood at his home in Kano,” Kwankwaso said.

“Dan Shagamu was brutally slaughtered in a horrific attack. I strongly urge the Kano State Government to immediately constitute an investigative panel to thoroughly probe this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
Kwankwaso stressed the need for the authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the death are properly established and that anyone found responsible is brought to justice.
He also warned that failure by the authorities to take what he described as decisive and transparent action could lead to further investigation by an incoming NDC administration.
“Should the authorities fail to take decisive and transparent action, the incoming NDC Government will, upon assumption of office, launch a full investigation and take all necessary steps to hold those responsible accountable,” he said.
The NDC vice-presidential candidate further called on the Kano State and Federal Governments to take steps to protect opposition voices and individuals who express political opinions.
He said freedom of expression is guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution and argued that the right should protect citizens from threats, attacks and intimidation regardless of their political views.
“I further call on both the State and Federal Governments to protect opposition voices from harm. The Nigerian Constitution guarantees freedom of expression for all citizens, and this right must shield everyone from threats, attacks, and intimidation,” Kwankwaso said.
He insisted that the authorities must conduct a full investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
The former Kano governor also extended his condolences to the family, friends and followers of Dan Shagamu, praying for the repose of his soul.
“I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and followers. May Almighty Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen,” he added.
